Homing Instinct
2021
Beleaguered by constant thoughts of home, safety, security and comfort, my new series, Homing Instinct reflects on notions of nesting.
I am motivated by colour and nostalgia, having a love for fabrics and historical references. This work responds to these influences and furthers my exploration of painting vintage ceramics in an alluring arrangement.
I’ve been drawn to the fantastical colour and silvery highlights of vintage lustreware, combined with the opulence of a Van Eyck inspired bed, to create a symbolic gesture of containment. A home within a home; self contained.
