NEW WORK – Studies in lightworks
In 2025, I began making painting studies in a new direction.
I’m interested in gradations of colour, both the subtle and contrasting tonal shifts of hue, geometry and undulating lines of shifting light in a landscape. These ideas come together in these new exploratory studies.
I’ve long been inspired by the colour and movement of the Byzantine mosaics in Ravenna, Italy; sculptural and geometric forms—reflections and materiality often found in contemporary architecture —and the ever-changing light of the natural environment.
These studies are the new beginnings in Lightworks.
The play of light and movement across a surface, the iteration that is felt in the body and the joy of colour are the motivating elements behind a new direction in my painting practice.
